Why King Charles III and Prince William Refrain from Stripping Harry and Meghan of Their Titles

In a surprising twist of royal protocol, King Charles III and Prince William have opted against revoking the titles of Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. According to a royal expert, this decision stems from apprehensions about potential backlash from the public if such actions were taken.

Tom Quinn, a seasoned commentator on royal affairs, explained to Mirror that discussions within the royal family have indeed broached the subject of stripping Meghan and Harry of their titles. However, both King Charles III and Prince William fear that such a move could backfire, exacerbating rather than mitigating the ongoing tensions.

“They do not want to give the renegade royal couple any more grievances to complain about,” Quinn remarked. “William and his father know that even without their titles, Meghan and Harry would continue to travel the world as de facto royal representatives. Most people around the world would still welcome the Sussexes.”

Currently seen as opposition figures to King Charles III and Prince William following a series of conflicts, the Sussexes have maintained their titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex since stepping back from senior royal duties in 2020. However, they no longer use the HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) style, and Harry has been stripped of all honorary military roles.
